Government of Sri Lanka has identified the importance of maintaining and uplifting proper nutritional status of pregnant and lactating mothers, infants, children, and disadvantaged people, and therefore many initiatives have been currently implementing for the targeted cohort.

In the meantime, considering the risk of nutrient depletion due to the inflation of food items and shortage of food items, with the financial support of USAID, UNICEF aims to temporarily provide additional support to women/caretakers beyond the current Pregnancy Voucher programme, covering children between 04 months to 24 months. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a monthly cash transfer of Rs. 6750.00 for 04 months, complementing government cash programme.

Initially this programme was started in the Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Monaragala, Kegalle, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Rathnapura Districts. Ministry of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment coordinate and supervise the programme on behalf of the Government, and UNICEF expect to extend the programme to Nuwaraeliya District too….
