The last day of the National Early Childhood Care Week 2025 fell on today (20).

On this occasion, an activity-based program and closing ceremony for preschool children organized by the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Development, affiliated to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, was held at the Vihara Mahadevi Park in Colombo under the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Mrs. Saroja Savitri Paulraj.

The event was attended by Hon. Deputy Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana, Secretary to the Ministry, Mrs. K.D.R. Olga, Additional Secretary (Development) Mrs. Nilmini Herath, Director of the Western Provincial Preschool Charter Unit, Mr. Dushmantha Rajapaksa, Additional District Secretary of the Colombo, M.A.S. Ms. Kanchana Gunawardena, Commissioner of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services Ms. Gayani Kaushalya Wijesinghe, Lecturer of the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education of the National Institute of Education Ms. Sakunthala Ranasinghe, Director of the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Development Ms. D. D. Varuni Rasadari, along with officials, parents and pre-school children were present.

The National Week on Early Childhood Care and Development was declared with the aim of educating the community about the need to obtain quality services for this sector and the future expectations and plans for early childhood care and development;

Starting from July 14th and ending on July 20th, programs were implemented for a week covering the entire island, targeting community groups in District Secretariat Divisions and Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
