Let it sprout” - tree planting programme - Environment Day 2025
"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money"
This powerful message from Native American Chief Seattle reminds us that human being is not separate from the environment, we are part of it. If we fail to protect nature, we endanger our own survival.
As human beings, we begin to cultivate qualities such as love, compassion, kindness, and gratitude from early childhood.
The direction a child’s life takes is determined by how their attitudes and skills are nurtured during their early childhood years.
In recognition of World Environment Day 2025, and under the national theme “Let it Sprout” the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Development, affiliated with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has organized a tree-planting program in collaboration with government-affiliated early childhood development centers and preschools.
The symbolic event of this program took place today (5th) at Madapatha Kekulu Preschool, affiliated with the Kesbewa Municipal Council, with the enthusiastic participation of preschool kids.
This event was held under the patronage of Hon. Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savithri Paulraj, and Hon. Deputy Minister, Dr. Namal Sudarshana.
In attendance were Mr. Kalumaddumage Chamara, Chairman of the Kesbewa Municipal Council; Ms. Nilmini Herath, Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs; Ms. D.D. Waruni Rasadari, Director of the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Development; as well as government officials and parents.
