In an era where child safety is increasingly intertwined with the digital world, a vital cyber security awareness programme was successfully conducted on 03rd June 2026 for officials of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), Organized under the strategic guidance of the Clean Sri Lanka Project, the intensive session aimed to equip the Authority with essential digital defence mechanisms required to protect children in the modern digital environment.

The event was graced by Mrs. S. B. Nanayakkara, Director General (Planning), Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, who attended as the Chief Guest. The Chairperson of the NCPA, Ms. Preethi Inoka Ranasinghe, and the Deputy Director General of the NCPA, Mr. A. P. Senevirathne, also participated in the programme, underscoring the Authority’s strong commitment to strengthening its digital security framework.

The programme was spearheaded by Brigadier K. V. P. Dhammika, USP, Director of the Defence Cyber Command (DCC), along with a team of expert officers from the DCC. Recognizing the urgent need for practical knowledge, the interactive session was designed with comprehensive live demonstrations and hands-on exercises.

The curriculum covered a wide range of critical areas in digital security, including:

• The evolving cyber threat landscape

• Surviving digital scams

• Social media best practices

• Risk management and mitigation strategies

• Child protection in cyberspace

• Protecting one’s digital life

The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer forum, allowing NCPA officials to clarify legal and technical matters directly with the experts from the Defence Cyber Command.

This collaborative initiative reinforces the Authority’s preparedness to address emerging digital vulnerabilities and strengthens its capacity to safeguard children in the online environment.
