Work Together to Safeguard Children

The Minister of Women and Child Affairs informed the media regarding the establishment of the Multisectoral Mechanism with an Integrated Approach to Protect Children from Abuse and All Forms of Violence.

A press conference organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs was held today (30) at the Department of Government Information with the aim of raising awareness among the media and the public about this newly proposed mechanism.

This discussion was chaired by Hon. Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savitri Paulraj. Participating in the event were Hon. Deputy Minister of Women and Child Affairs Dr. Namal Sudarshana, Secretary to the Ministry Ms. K.D.R. Olga, Additional Secretary (Development) Ms. Nilmini Herath, Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority Ms. Preethi Inoka Ranasinghe, Commissioner of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services Ms. Gayani Kaushalya Wijesinghe, and Director of the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Development Ms. D.D.V. Rasadari, along with other officials of the ministry.

The Hon. Minister emphasized the importance of the Multisectoral Mechanism with an Integrated Approach to Protect Children from Abuse and All Forms of Violence in building a safer society for children. Both the Minister and the Deputy Minister shared their views on the constructive observations and recommendations received from the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the Ministry of Justice and National Integration, and His Excellency the President, in response to the Cabinet Memorandum submitted regarding the establishment of this mechanism.

Ms. Olga, Secretary to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, explained the structure, responsibilities, and operational process of the proposed mechanism. In addition, the heads of the National Child Protection Authority and the Department of Probation and Child Care Services detailed how their institutions will function within this multisectoral framework.
